Reiner Eichenberger has held the following academic positions: Associate Professor from 1998 until 2001 and then Professor of Economics from 2001 onwards at the University of Fribourg. Prior to this he was a Research Associate between 1991 and 1998 at the University of Zurich. He has also been the Co-Editor of Kyklos; a member of the Swiss Federal Communication Commission (the independent regulator of the telecom sector) and a Judge for the Swiss Federal Commission for Appeal where he dealt with issues concerning competition. His diverse research interests which include, public economics and economic policy, political economy, psychological economics, institutional innovations; have led him to author the following publications : The New Democratic Federalism for Europe: Functional, Overlapping, and Competing Jurisdictions (Elgar) 1999, 2004 (with Bruno S. Frey), Verhaltensanomalien und Wirtschaftswissenschaft: Herausforderung, Reaktionen, Perspektiven (DUV) 1992, more than 80 articles in academic journals and edited volumes (among them: Journal of Political Economy, American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Perspectives, Journal of Public Economics) and many contributions to non-academic sources.
